For the last 75 years or so, when you say the word "Socialism" nearly everyone recoils.  But now, according to sports historian David Zirin "Socialism's all the rage."  Oddly enough, it's the right wing which is creating a new interest in what the word really means. On this Portside, Burt Cohen pries open the veil of fear to examine what Socialism might really mean for America.

Hey Burt!

Well, after spending a bit of time attempting to articulate one of my ideas for a show, I took a break and listened to the podcast of yesterday's show, Socialists Out and Proud, and what a surprise to find that you covered many of the thoughts I had written down! It was amazing. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to the show and look forward to listening to more.

This morning I read an editorial in the Wall Street Journal written by Karl Rove. He was attempting to brand these tea parties as being far more significant than they really were and as more of a grass roots effort than they really were. I had been reading various reports about how poorly attended they were. Just because they say it is so doesn't make it so!

You mentioned something about the big bucks Rush Limbaugh makes. I also wonder how much Hannity, Beck and O'Reilly make. The idea that people are being moved supposedly at a grass roots level to take a stand when they are clearly being manipulated by these guys so they can bring in big money is hysterical.

I will move onto my other ideas but maybe I will first take a closer look at your archives. Great minds think alike.

I am excited to have learned about your show!

Brenda
